There is a saying that there is always three sides of a story – the story teller’s side, the other side and the truth. Many have pinned Jasper Simmons and his agent as foolish for their scathing of the Calgary Stampeders organization following his release last year. Simmons told his side of the story.
Jasper Simmons Tells His Side of the Story
Last off-season the Ottawa Redblacks sent their best defensive player from their inaugural seasons in Simmons to Calgary for receiver Maurice Price. The trade ultimately didn’t work out for Calgary, but Price was an important depth receiver during the Redblacks run to the Grey Cup.
After the trade, Simmons said that “what went through [his] head was this [was] stupid to trade your best defensive player.” He was clearly upset that he was gone in Ottawa after one year.
Simmons was frustrated over playing time and publicly requested a trade or release through his agent. His agent called the Stampeders a classless organization, and many turned on Simmons.
“I don’t regret doing that because I never came to Canada to sit on the bench I came to play and Calgary wasn’t giving me that. The only thing I wish I could change is that I would still be with Ottawa and the trade never happened.” Simmons said.
Every football player – and any athlete for that matter – would rather be playing, and not sit in the press box. Jasper Simmons is not any different.
Ultimately Simmons had a brief stint with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but was released and has not been in the CFL since.
“Jasper Simmons is good enough for the CFL, I know so 100 percent, however I am not looking for another chance because you have to be budd with the league, and not just go off talent anymore.” said the bold Simmons.
Many fans ended up not liking him because of his agent and he still says ” I have the same agent, I’ll keep him forever because he got my back ’til the end no matter what.”
“There is my side of the story and I hope many have different opinions of my agent and myself now.”
