Nick Foles and San Francisco 49ers Equals Success

Nick Foles looks like he's on his way out of Los Angeles. If he wants to be as successful as he was in Philadelphia, San Francisco is the place for him.

In 2013, quarterback Nick Foles threw for an astounding 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles under head coach Chip Kelly. The 27 touchdowns included a seven-touchdown performance against the Oakland Raiders. The Eagles also went on to defeat the Dallas Cowboys on the final night of the NFL season to win the NFC East and make the playoffs only to lose to the New Orleans Saints.

After suffering a broken collarbone in 2014, Foles lost his starting job to Mark Sanchez and eventually Sam Bradford. He went to play for head coach Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams. In that season Foles threw for just seven touchdowns and tossed 10 interceptions.

It now looks like Foles will lose his starting job for the newly relocated Rams (moved back to Los Angeles this off-season) after the team drafted University of California quarterback Jared Goff with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.

So what’s next for Foles? Where could he land? Where will he land? Where should he land? The perfect team for him looks to be the San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners are currently dealing with a quarterback competition of their own. Colin Kaepernick went from Super Bowl XLVII runner-up to super washed up. Blaine Gabbert is not an ideal NFL ready quarterback, either, winning only one game for the 49ers last season.

Foles is a different quarterback than both Kaep or Gabbert. Not only can he put up better numbers, but if he went to San Francisco he would have a much better team than he did in St. Louis and would possibly be in a better situation than he was in Philly.

Wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, both of who played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2012, when the Ravens beat Kaepernick and the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, can put up big numbers if targeted enough times.

Boldin caught 69 passes for 789 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. Over his career, however, he has been an amazing wide receiver for not just the Ravens, but the Arizona Cardinals, as well. He caught 44 touchdowns as a member of the Cards, including joining them on a trip to Super Bowl XLIII in 2009. If the team re-signs Boldin, as he is currently a free agent, he would be big time player for the 49ers in 2016.

Smith caught 33 passes for 663 yards and also caught for touchdowns in 2015. But in Baltimore, he caught 30 touchdowns in four seasons, including a career-high 11 touchdowns in his final season in 2014.

With a quarterback like Foles, who threw 27 touchdowns with receivers such as DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper, who have equal talent to that of Boldin and Smith, the duo could put up big numbers in the Bay Area this upcoming season.

There to help Foles will be his old head coach, Chip Kelly, who agreed to become the 49ers next head coach back in March. With Foles and Kelly, along with the wide receiving duo of Boldin, if the team re-signs him, and Smith, and if running back Carlos Hyde can have a breakout season, the 49ers, behind Foles, can be a playoff team in 2016.
