Report: Knicks Very Close to Deal with Jeff Hornacek
Hornacek has an NBA career coaching record of 101-112 in three seasons with the Phoenix Suns. He was let go by the Suns after 49 games this past season posting a record of 14-35. The 53 year-old coach spent 14 seasons in the NBA as a player in 1980’s and 90’s.
New York was looking to improve at the coaching position. The pairing of Derek Fisher and Kurt Rambis combined for a record of 49-115 in the last two seasons. This past season Fisher started out 22-22 and was in playoff contention. After losing nine of the next ten games he was fired and replaced by Rambis who finished out the season with a record of 9-19. They missed the playoffs by twelve games.
The hiring of Hornacek is a positive sign for the Knicks organization. It means that Phil Jackson was willing to look outside his coaching tree in order to improve the team, and try to pick up more wins going forward.
