Lex Immers has joined the bluebirds on a permanent deal and becomes the first player to join Cardiff City for the 2016-2017 campaign. Immers already a popular figure amongst the Cardiff fans following his recent loan spell at the club. Many supports at the club regard Immers as outgoing Cardiff boss Russell Slade’ best piece of business, Immers who joined the bluebirds in January on a loan deal until the end of the season. He went on to make a total of 15 appearances during that time scoring 5 goals, the first coming in a 3-2 away win at Huddersfield Town.
On completion of the deal Lex Immers told the official Cardiff City website: “It only took one meeting with the CEO (Ken Choo) for me to know that this is where I wanted to be. My family are already settled in Cardiff and the rapport I have with the fans is something I want to nurture going forward. This is a fantastic club with ambition that matches my own.”
Cardiff fans will no doubt be delighted at the prospect of seeing the popular Immers back in a Cardiff City shirt next season at the Cardiff City Stadium with there said to be a lot of interest in the 29 year old Dutchman. This was confirmed by Cardiff City CEO Ken Choo who added: “We’re delighted to be officially welcoming Lex Immers to the Cardiff City family. The impact he made during his time on loan was significant, and we feel that he is the right fit for the future we see for this Football Club. A number of clubs wanted him this summer, but I’m thrilled that he has shown such commitment and loyalty to us”.
Cardiff fans will no doubt hope this marks the first of many deals the club go on to complete to strengthen the squad during this summer transfer window, with the club only recently having a transfer embargo lifted which prevented the club to complete permanent deals during the last January transfer window.
