Walker, a first-time Pro Bowler in 2015, is coming off his best statistical season to date with 94 receptions for 1,088 yards receiving and six touchdowns. He’s scored 16 of his 24 career touchdowns since joining the Titans back in 2013. Walker is now signed through the 2019 season, which will provide the club’s young quarterback, Marcus Mariota, with a big target over the middle for the foreseeable future.
“Delainie is an integral piece of the offense,” Titans general manager Jon Robinson said on Friday. “In my short time around him, he came in and bought into our philosophy of what Titan football is going to be about. Obviously he’s a Pro Bowl player with great individual statistics, but his commitment and his desire and willingness to compete to the team concept of wanting to win is as important. We are looking forward to his on-filed performance, but his positive impact in the community as well.”
Walker, 31, was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth-round (175th overall pick) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Central Missouri. He played seven seasons with the 49ers where he caught 123 passes for 1,465 yards receiving along with eight touchdowns.
It wasn’t until 2013 when Walker signed a four-year contract with the Titans that his game began to take off. In his first season with Tennessee, Walker had 60 catches for 571 yards receiving and six touchdowns, all of which were career highs. Then in 2014, he kept that trend alive, by again setting career highs with 63 receptions and 890 yards receiving, while catching four touchdowns. In 2015, however, Walker set a Titans record by a tight end with 1,088 yards receiving. He also had a career high with 94 receptions, along with tying his career high in touchdowns catches with six.
