Logan Shore 2016 MLB Draft Profile

Shore is from Coon Rapids, MN, and went to Coon Rapids High School. He is currently a junior at University of Florida where he is their Friday night starter, which is the equivalent of a staff ace for a MLB team.  During his previous 2 seasons for UF, he has garnered quite a few accolades including 2014 SEC Freshman of the Year, 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, 2014 NCBWA Freshman All-American, 2014 All-SEC First Team, & 2014 SEC All-Freshman Team.  At time of print, Shore is 8-0 with a 2.39 ERA.

Strengths:

  • Fastball: 91-93 MPH, Change: 81-84 MPH, Slider: 79-83 MPH
  • Able to locate fastball and maintain velocity late into games
  • Absolutely devastating circle change, arm speed stays consistent with fastball
  • Slider is sweeping and slurvy
  • Ground Ball Percentage: 55.28%
  • Pitches to contact and lets his defense work, but can pitch to strikeout if need be

Weaknesses:

  • Slider was inconsistent his first 2 years at UF, but has been improving

MLB Comparison: Alex Cobb, Tampa Bay Rays

Projected Pick Range: 1-15

Most Likely Landing Spot: Minnesota Twins

Bottom Line:

Over the course of three years at University of Florida, Shore has developed into a full-on college ace who will most likely land in the back end of a MLB rotation as an innings-eating workhorse.  The command he has on the mound is something that can’t be taught, and something that MLB teams want on their staff.  Shore rarely walks batters, and also has a fantastic glove.  In an interview with our own Max Rosenfeld, Atlanta Braves Northeast Scout Kevin Barry was quoted as saying that Shore, “is one the best college arms there is”.
