Alex Rodriguez Heads to the DL

The New York Yankees have placed designated hitter Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list after he strained his right hamstring according to the team’s PR Department.

The injury to A-Rod happened during the Yankees 4-1 loss to the Orioles on Wednesday. The loss was their sixth in a row.

The Yankees have called up a left-handed pitcher to replace A-Rod, as James Pazos will be joining the big league team from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Bronx Bombers have struggled to begin the season as they currently sit in last place in the AL East with an 8-16 record.

Rodriguez figured to be a force in the Yankees lineup in 2016 after a bounce back season last year which resulted in a slash line of .250/.356/.486 with 33 home runs and 86 RBI. His home run total last year was the most he has hit in a single season since 2008.

Like many players on the Yankees, Rodriguez has struggled so far this year. Although he has five home runs and 12 RBI, he has been batting under the Mendoza-Line at .194 to begin his 2016 campaign.

The Yankees won’t be catching any breaks anytime soon as they don’t play a sub-.500 team until they face the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 16th. While Rodriguez hasn’t been terrific offensively, the Yankees lineup will miss him as they’ve only scored more than three runs once in their last nine games.
