According to offensive tackle Cordy Glenn’s management firm, SportsTrust Advisors, the Buffalo Bills and Glenn agreed to a five-year contract on Tuesday. The news was later confirmed by the team. The Bills had placed Glenn under the franchise tag back on March 1st. The tender was worth $13.7 million, and gave Buffalo until July 15 to come to an agreement with their star offensive tackle on a long-term deal.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the deal is for five-years and $65 million, with $36 million guaranteed. Rapoport also reported that the deal is worth a total of $30 million over the first two years. The deal also has another $9.5 million in guaranteed money in case of an injury. The contract makes Glenn the second highest fully guaranteed offensive tackle in the NFL, and it will keep Glenn under contract with the Bills until 2020.
Glenn, 26, was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. In 2015, Glenn was awarded the Bills Ed Block Courage Award, which is voted on by his teammates. He was graded by Pro Football Focus as the tenth-ranked offensive tackle, as well as the fifth-ranked pass blocking tackle in the NFL during the 2015 season. Glenn, who is listed at 6’6″ and 345-pounds, only surrendered two sacks in nearly 1,100 snaps last season. He’s also made every start (61) after missing three games during his rookie season in 2012. Prior to the 2014 season, Glenn had one of his kidneys removed and managed not to miss any time.
Only Trent Williams of the Washington Redskins has a higher annual salary than Cordy Glenn, with only three other left tackles making more than $11 million per season. Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns who signed his deal back in 2011 is one of those players.
