All the NFL schedules were released earlier in April and I have decided to break down the Kansas City Chiefs schedule and point out the intriguing games and the ones that could be the most interesting. Just for fun I have decided to ignore the AFC West opponents on this review. Why not include the AFC West opponents? They are being ignored because those will be big games regardless of how the season goes. The Broncos, Chargers and Raiders will always be good games to watch the Chiefs play.
2016 Kansas City Chiefs Schedule Review
September 18th: at Houston Texans
The Chiefs will once again travel to play the Houston Texans at Houston. In the span of basically one year this will be the third time in a year that the Chiefs will make the trip to NRG Stadium to face the Texans. They opened up the 2015 season playing Houston and shut them out during Wild Card weekend. Now they will play their first road game of the 2016 season against the Texans. Houston has always had a good defense as long as J.J. Watt is there but their offense definitely improved this off-season with the Texans signing Lamar Miller and Brock Osweiler. It will be a good early test for the Chiefs on the road to maybe get a feel for how the 2016 season could end up.
September 25th: vs. New York Jets
The week after playing the Texans in Houston, the Chiefs have a home game against the New York Jets in what could be a good old fashioned slug fest of a game. The Chiefs and Jets both rely on strong running games and tough defenses and we will see how these two teams battle out in a late afternoon game. Arrowhead will be rocking but you can beat the Jets will be ready to play. The Chiefs have a pretty tough handful of games to start the season off because just after they play the Jets they face Pittsburgh.
October 2nd: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Kansas City will travel to Pittsburgh to face the always tough Steelers. The Chiefs beat them last season but Landry Jones was the quarterback for that game. Ben Roethlisberger will more than likely be healthy for this one. The Steelers have a tough offense but also have a defense that is nothing to laugh at either. This will be a tough start to the season for the Chiefs but after this game Kansas City gets a bye.
October 30th: at Indianapolis Colts
Kansas City travels to Indianapolis to play the Colts at the end of October. The Chiefs haven’t played the Colts since their playoff loss in the 2013 post-season. There might be some newer faces on the team since then but you can bet the Chiefs will want to beat the Colts after that heartbreaking loss.
November 13th: at Carolina Panthers
A few weeks into November, Kansas City travels to Carolina to play the Panthers. It will be a chance to see how they stack up against both Super Bowl teams this year. The Panthers are very similar to the Chiefs in some aspects. They rely on a run game, have a very good tight end, a strong defensive game, and have a quarterback who can run and throw. This will be a tough battle but should be a good one to watch.
This concludes the top games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. As stated above, the list does not contain the AFC West matchups versus the Broncos, Chargers, and Raiders. But you can bet that all of those games will be great to watch as well. Speaking of which, the Chiefs play the Broncos on Christmas Night in 2016 so that will be a fun game to watch with family.
