Goodbye "At That Rob Leigh"

Leigh is spelt L. E. I. G. H.

Doesn’t work as well in writing does it.  But how else can I express my gratitude for the dulcit tones of one of Wrestling’s finest UK voices.  Last week James Delow announced on Episode 066 of Talksport’s WWE Podcast ‘Gorilla Position’ that “at That Rob Leigh” would be leaving his weekly role with the fantastic Podcast.

A couple of years ago James Delow came up with the wonderful concept of ‘Gorilla Position’ and the first episode with his plucky sidekick aired 18 months ago.  Week by week James and Rob Leigh have broken down Monday Night Raw, NXT and Pay Per Views as well as all other Wrestling News and happenenings bringing the UK fans some fantastic content and tangibly growing the popularity of the WWE in the UK.

When I heard that Talksport was going to be the platform for this Podcast I could hardly belive my ears.  It was so totally different from anything that Talksport had produced before – and now they were delving into the world of Sports Entertainment.  But the second I heard the trail, I logged onto iTunes and could not Subscribe any quicker – then I started listening.

Then I was hooked.  The chemistry between Rob Leigh and James Delow has been great to listen too, and like all top podcasts they have created their world within their topic which the listeners and hosts actively participate in.  Gorilla Position has grown so rapidly and loyally to the point that they are looking to do live shows, have their very own radio show, on the worlds number one sports radio station, and James Delow continues to gather up some great guests onto the show.  James is also filming a BBC documentary on the World of Sports Entertainment.  What a fantastic achievement for a UK Wrestling Podcast.

I’m very fussy when it comes to a Podcast.  I have to like the voices I am hearing.  I have to believe in the intelligence of the broadcasters, they have to entertain me and they must make me feel like I am hanging out with them.  They almost become my friends.  There is no doubt that Gorilla Position makes me feel like that.  Gorilla Position and I share the same interests, we learn from each other, and above all they make me laugh.  A lot.  What more does a listener need.

Gorilla Position is groundbreaking in the UK.  Its success lies in its quality of production,  and the brilliance of the execution and its great to see Talksport giving Gorilla Position the window and opportunity to show how wonderful WWE can be.

In this weeks episode Rob Leigh explains a little more why he is leaving the show – and no one can blame him.  He is a top journalist and needs some editorial indepnendance from the product – which sadly Gorilla Position cannot give him.  As much as I understand his reasons, they do not stop me from being sad on his departure.  His catchphrases will be surely missed each week…and I can only hope that the “#merch” still gets produced, and the #MassivePunts keep rolling into the show.  I can’t wait to find out where Gorilla Position will go in the post Rob Leigh era, and I know that it will continue to grow and develop from strength to strength as the foundations it is built on are so very strong.

And besides…Rob isn’t really gone.  He’ll be back.  For the odd show or editorial and you can always follow him on “The Sosh”.  This week he just bowed out leaving the world of Wrestling Broadcasting a much better place for his being here.  Rob, you will be missed and I wish you every success in the future.

I can only urge you all to find out how wonderful this podcast is.  If you listen to ‘The Ross Report’, ‘Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast’ or ‘Between The Ropes’ then you will definitely want to listen to Gorilla Position here:  https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/gorilla-position/id961131289

And enjoy.
