Preview: LA Galaxy II vs. San Antonio FC – Wednesday, April 13, 2016

After two shutout wins to start the season, Galaxy II have earned two consecutive draws in fixtures against Real Monarchs SLC and Orange County Blues. Los Dos have scored the most goals in USL so far this season and hold the highest goal differential in the Western Conference (+5). They’ve shown they can spread the scoring around too: Los Dos have six different goal scorers this year, the most in USL.

This year, San Antonio has played two games to LA’s four. San Antonio drew 1-1 against Swope Park Rangers last weekend and defeated Seattle Sounders 2 FC 3-0 to open the season. The team was founded in 2016 and is owned and operated by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, owners of the NBA’s successful San Antonio Spurs franchise. In the team’s inaugural home opener at Toyota Field, 8,466 fans turned out to see the side’s 1-1 draw against Swope Park Rangers.

Endurance could be a factor in Wednesday night’s match: SAFC will be playing its third game in 11 days and Los Dos its fifth in under three weeks. It will be San Antonio’s second trip to the West Coast this season after their club’s inaugural match in Seattle. For Galaxy II, the match will be the side’s fourth at StubHub Center so far this season.

LAST MATCH

LA Galaxy II 1 | Orange County Blues FC 1: Galaxy II possessed the ball for much of the match but struggled to create chances in the final third, managing one goal, lower than the 2.67 goals per game average Los Dos carried ahead of the match. It served as the second straight game Galaxy II went scoreless in the first half. Forward Jose Villarreal broke the deadlock in the 68th minute with a nifty move and a powerful strike inside the box. But just five minutes later, a free kick from Orange County’s Didier Crettenand just outside the box snuck through traffic and found the back of the net.

San Antonio FC 1 | Swope Park Rangers 1: In front of massive home crowd, San Antonio FC conceded a goal to Swope Park just two minutes into the match. San Antonio responded before the conclusion of the half though, as SAFC’s Danny Garcia put one away late in the first half. San Antonio put seven of 17 shots on goal in the match.
