Lucas Hefty Impressive in Rare Barnstomers' Home Loss

The Barnstormers were downed 46-43 by the Nebraska Danger on Saturday night in what was their first home loss in five games, dating back to last season. It was a game stolen away from Iowa, but no one can take away Lucas Hefty’s night.

The former Upper Iowa Peacock caught six passes (it felt like 60) for 70 yards (it felt like 700.)

After catching his second touchdown, Hefty chants rained down from the Wells Fargo Arena crowd.

“Man, Upper Iowa,” Hefty said, refferring to the large fan base that attends Barnstormer games

“I think I had 23 family members here that I got packaged tickets for. A bunch of Friends that come from home too, [that] live an hour and a half away. It’s awesome having huge fan support.”

As Hefty was the biggest star of the night, LeMans Casimier came in a close second. “Cash” as the fans call him, took five completions and 81 yards to two touchdowns for himself. Although it wasn’t enough to give Iowa their 4th win of the young season.

“It’s one of those things, that you know, it hurts when it feels like it’s one of them that you’re supposed to come out with,” Casimier said.

Iowa started the game with a fumble on the initial kick off return, and an interception on their first offnsive play. They somehow came out with just a 7-0 deficit to overcome. After a Caimier TD and two more Hefty ones, the Barnstormers trounced into halftime with a 21-7 lead.

Unfortunately the defense sputtered to give up 39 points in the second half.

“It’s back to the drawing board. We’re working hard and we’re looking forward to next week,” Casimier added.

What’s up next: Spokane Empire

The Barnstormers will face off in a grudge match with the Spokane Empire after a controversial call found their game winning touchdown to not count just two weeks ago. Spokane enters the game with a 4-1 record, so a Barnstormers win could help turn this bad stretch around. And believe this, they want this one, bad.

That game kicks off at 7:05pm on Saturday at the Well.
