Crowding the Plate Episode 2: Make Baseball Fun Again

Bryce Harper wants to make baseball fun again, and we here at Crowding the Plate could not agree more. Johnny Bench, on the other hand, is being old and crotchety. It also took all of three days for the new slide rule at second base to have a massive impact on the final result of a game. The question is, was Jose Bautista in violation of the rule?

Greg also forgot that we recorded this episode right before lunch. He decided to make Joe hungry as all get out by talking about all the fantastic (or otherwise) foods that Major League teams are offering at their concession stands this year. The Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers, in particular, are bringing it strong in the culinary department this summer.

Music in this episode:

Intro/Outro: “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” sung by Edward Meeker and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” by The Isotopes Punk Rock Baseball Club

Interlude 1: “Until I Break” by Broken Sunday with quote from Bull Durham

Interlude 2: “Dirty World” by Staggolee with quote from Major League

Hosted by Joe Hojnacki and Greg Hessen, Crowding the Plate is a weekly baseball podcast here on Last Word on Sports. It aims to cover the fun, yet analytical, side of baseball once a week.

Joe Hojnacki writes for soccer for Last Word on Sports and is also co-host of the Crowding the Plate Podcast. An avid Red Sox fan, Joe idolizes Bryce Harper and feels that his fun showmanship is the way to save baseball from becoming overrun by old folks and dying out.

Greg Hessen is the resident Tigers fan on Crowding the Plate. As someone more traditionalist, Greg longs for the days of pitchers hitting in the American League and a landscape that didn’t have things like bat flips and PEDs tarnishing the greatest of all games.
