We are starting to see rookies coming up in every racing series, and they are showing potential and racing well a a young age. In talking to some young rookie drivers lately competing in different racing divisions they all come across well spoken and very career goal driven.
Three drivers that show tremendous potential this year are racing in the K&N Pro Series East this year. Ali Kern will turn 23 this May and has already been racing for 15 years. She started racing at 7 years old and is used to winning races and championships. She was lucky enough to be selected to the 2016 NASCAR Drive for Diversity combine. Kern has shown she is extremely successful on the track, but she is quick to point out her love of schooling where she graduated from high school early and is presently attending college where she hopes that everything she learns will help her with her racing program. She is currently 14th in the point standings and 10th in rookie points in the K&N series.
NASCAR Rookies Pursuing their Dreams
Another rookie female driver competing in the same K&N Pro Series East division is Canadian Dominique Van Weiringen. This high energy driver already has 14 years of competition under her belt and she hungry for wins. She is currently sitting in 10th in the standings and 7th in the rookie of the year standings. She is studying to be a mechanical engineer with a minor in Motorsports engineering at UNCC. This might be the only rookie to ever say she can’t wait to race at Bristol, where she loves high banks and fast tracks.
A third female rookie driver in the 2016 K&N Pro Series East competing for rookie of the year honors is Canadian Sarah Cornett-Ching. She is 13th is the standings and ranks 8th in rookie standings. What is remarkable about Sarah is she is a licensed Red Seal welder. She happily admits she too focused on her driving to weld anymore but still teases the team welder and checks his work. Another thing is the team has Dickies clothing as a associate sponsor and she will tell you she has direct experience with this company as she used to wear these clothes as a welder.
These are just three rookies racing around the country pursuing their dreams and showing they commitment to education as being as important as their skills behind the wheel.
