Alfred Morris Signs With the Dallas Cowboys

Former Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris signed a two-year, contract with the Dallas Cowboys today. We are awaiting financial terms of the deal. Morris spent the first four seasons of his career with the Redskins.

Alfred Morris Signs

While Morris remained open to a return to Washington, he ultimately decided to move on this off-season. A powerful runner with a deceptive burst of speed, Morris adds potential production to his new backfield. While limited as a receiver, Morris has been a highly productive runner in the past and still has relatively fresh legs at the age of 27.

Alfred Morris, originally from Pensacola, Florida, is a Florida Atlantic University product. Morris had a relatively quiet college career before being selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. His best collegiate season came in 2009, as he rushed for 1,392 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, his production actually dipped during his final season at FAU, as he rushed for only 928 yards and seven touchdowns.

Morris, alongside high cost first-round quarterback Robert Griffin III, burst onto the scene his rookie season for 1,613 yards rushing (a Redskins single season record) and 13 touchdowns. He went on to be selected as a 2nd-team All-Pro that season before adding Pro Bowl selections to his resume after the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Unfortunately for Morris, his rookie season has proven to be his best statistically thus far in his career as he has failed to match that production, declining each season before finishing with 751 yards rushing and only one touchdown this past season. So far during his young four-year career, Morris has accrued 4,713 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. Perhaps with a fresh start, Morris can return to his rookie form as a dominant runner and a consistent fantasy football impact player.
