Arsenal on Loan: Arsenal Loanees Fail to Shine in Poor Weekend

It was a weekend of poor performances and results which saw Arsenal loanees fail to shine in any significant manner and saw too many miss out altogether.

This season Last Word on Sports will be keeping you up to date on the Arsenal players out on loan, as they continue to develop their skills and prove they are ready to compete for a place in the Arsenal side.

The players away on loan are:

  • Wojciech Szczesny (GK), on loan to AS Roma in Serie A
  • Yaya Sanogo (ST), on loan to Charlton Athletic in the Championship
  • Ainsley Maitland-Niles (MID), on loan to Ipswich Town in the Championship
  • Isaac Hayden (CB/MID), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Chuba Akpom (ST), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Jon Toral (MID), on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship
  • Emiliano Martinez (GK), on loan to Wolves in the Championship
  • Wellington Silva (MID), on loan to Bolton in the Championship
  • Gedion Zelalem (MID), on loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship
  • Glen Kamara (MID), on loan to Southend United in League One
  • Mathieu Debuchy (RB), on loan to Bordeaux in Ligue 1

It was a weekend of poor performances and poor results which saw Arsenal loanees fail to shine in any significant manner and their teams do poorly as well for the most part.

Wojciech Szczesny started and played 90 minutes as Roma drew 1-1 with Inter. The Arsenal loanee was forced to make just a single save, as Inter managed only six shots and just two on target. Roma’s equaliser came in the 84th minute through Rodja Nainggolan.

Yaya Sanogo did not play, serving his suspension from a red card in last Tuesday’s match against MK Dons, as Charlton fell 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles did not play as Ipswich won 2-0 over Blackburn.

Isaac Hayden did not play as Hull drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest. Teammate Chuba Akpom came on as an 80th minute substitute. Akpom failed to involve himself, attempting just one pass in his 10 minutes on the pitch, and failing to complete that pass.

Jon Toral started and played the full 75 minutes as Birmingham drew 1-1 with Fulham. It was a sub-par performance for the Arsenal man, which saw him complete just over half his attempted passes and fail to make his mark on the match before being withdrawn.

Emiliano Martinez did not play as Wolves drew 1-1 with Burnley.

Wellington Silva  came on as a 66th minute substitute as Bolton fell 6-0 to Bristol City. The loss dropped Bolton to 12 points from safety, making relegation a seemingly foregone conclusion, if it wasn’t already.

Gedion Zelalem missed out yet again as Rangers fell 3-2 to Falkirk. It has been a disappointing period for the American youngster, who, after a strong start with Rangers has seen his playing time dwindle to nothing in recent months.

Glen Kamara started and played 63 minutes as Southend United drew 1-1 with Gillingham. The draw kept Southend within three points of the promotion playoffs in League One.

Mathieu Debuchy missed out again for Bordeaux as he continues to recover from injury. Bordeaux drew 1-1 with Bastia.
