Donald Penn Re-Signs with Oakland Raiders for 2 Years
The 32-year-old is coming off an impressive season in providing protection to Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Penn graded as the eighth best tackle in terms of pass blocking according to Pro Football Focus. He allowed just 20 quarterback hurries all season which tied for fifth lowest in the league among tackles who played at least 1,000 snaps.
Penn played the majority of his ten seasons in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2010 while with the Bucs. He also made an appearance in the game as an alternate the following year. During his eight seasons in Tampa, the 6’5″, 340 pound lineman actually caught two touchdown passes while lined up as an eligible receiver.
He has since achieved the feat one more time while a member of the Raiders. In a 24-13 win over the 49ers in week 14 of the 2014 season, Penn caught the first touchdown pass of the game for Oakland.
The Los Angeles native was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings in 2006. The Bucs would later pick him up after he was released by the Vikings in the preseason. He played collegiately at Utah State where he was named second team all-WAC during his senior season.
2016 will be Penn’s 11th season in the league.
