Prince Amukamara To Sign 1-Year Deal with Jaguars
Prince Amukamara played in 11 games last season, missing five games because of a partial pectoral tear. During the 11 games, he recorded one interception, 10 passes defended, and 55 tackles. While he was not a Pro Bowl cornerback, he formed a very respectable duo with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie when both players were on the field.
There is no denying Amukamara’s talent, but injuries have ravaged his career so far. He has played in 16 games during only one of his five professional seasons. During the last two seasons alone, he has missed 13 games.
During his rookie season, Amukamara won the Super Bowl with the Giants as a depth player. He became a starting cornerback immediately after in 2012 and he has started for the Giants during the past four seasons. During his five seasons, he has recorded seven interceptions, 45 passes defended, and 225 tackles.
Amukamara is an above average cornerback who will be 27 in June. Despite his injury history, multiple teams were willing to gamble on his talent. At the prime age of 27, Amukamara has plenty of time to turn his career around and stay on the field for many seasons.
Prince went to high school in Arizona, where he starred in football and track and field. He was a member of the All-State team after thriving at running back and cornerback. He played four seasons at the University of Nebraska and became a starter during his junior year. During his senior year, he was recognized as a first-team All-American and he won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award. Amukamara was selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
