Travis Benjamin Signs With San Diego Chargers
Benjamin played in all 16 games last season. He was very productive on a very bad Cleveland team, recording 68 receptions for 966 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Browns definitely needed Benjamin in a year that involved a rotating cast of players at quarterback. He was a good player on a very bad offense and could be considered the best receiver on the Browns in 2015.
Despite not having a legitimate starting quarterback, Benjamin still was able to be very productive, as he put up solid numbers in 2015. During his first three seasons, he really wasn’t much of a factor but he took off in the 2015 season. Benjamin has amassed 109 receptions for 1,683 yards (averaging 15.4 yards per reception) and 10 touchdowns in his four-year career.
Benjamin has had only one major injury, a torn ACL in 2013, and for the most part he has avoided the injury bug. He turns 27 in December and his productivity is the biggest question mark. He has only really had one pretty good season as a receiver but he can also be used as a return man.
Benjamin was born in Belle Glade, Florida and went to high school there at Glades Central High School. His junior year he played on the state championship team and contributed to the team’s success as a senior. Benjamin was ranked the 21st best receiver by ESPN and in the top 150 of his class when he committed to the University of Miami. At Miami, he accumulated 131 receptions for 2,146 yards and 13 touchdowns along with 49 returned kicks for 1,137 yards (averaging 23.2 yards per return). Benjamin was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
