Ladarius Green Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers
Ladarius Green played in 13 games in 2015, racking up 429 yards on 37 receptions and scoring four touchdowns. It was his best year as a pro and at 25 years old, his best years are still ahead of him. His talent on the field is without question, ever since his athleticism and potential burst on the scene in 2013 during a November game against Kansas City in Arrowhead. Green silenced the crowd with a 60-yard touchdown reception. It isn’t very often that you see a tight end break away from defensive backs like Green seems to do with ease.
Green, who played his high school football at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida, was drafted in the 4th round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. At the time the team was slightly criticized for taking Green so early. He was viewed by many teams as a 6th round talent at best, and often considered a “project” by many general managers and scouts around the league. But over the past few seasons he has shown the ability to get open in space and flash that 4.53 40-speed more than a handful of times.
Ladarius Green has only had one problem during the early going of his career: Antonio Gates plays the same position he does. Gates has been a staple in the Chargers offense, and organization as a whole, since he was discovered in 2003. Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers has always had a third eye scanning the field for Gates, peppering him with targets for their entire careers. Of course, fighting with a legend for playing time comes with its ups and downs, but learning from the best is a priceless experience for Green. As the next few seasons unfold, we will see just how closely he paid attention.
