Jaye Howard Re-Signs With Kansas City Chiefs

Howard played in all 16 games last season. He was very productive on a very good Kansas City defense, recording 57 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. The Chiefs definitely filled a need with Howard when they claimed him off waivers in 2013. He played solidly as a defensive tackle on the Chiefs.

Despite being waived after one season with Seattle, Howard was able to be very productive, as he put up nice numbers during his three seasons with Kansas City. During his first two seasons, he didn’t really get a lot of playing time but he started to show what he can do in the 2014 season. Howard has amassed 99 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 pass defensed, 12 stuffs for a total of 23 stuffed yards in his four-year career.

Howard hasn’t really had any major injuries throughout his NFL career.  He turns 28 in December and his productivity is the biggest question mark. In 2015 he played the most snaps he has ever played since he played in over 500 snaps.

Howard was born in Zachary, Louisiana, went to high school at Orlando Jones in Florida, and went to college at the University of Florida. He was redshirted as a true freshman in 2007 and in 2008, he played in 9 games. During the Gators undefeated regular season in 2009, Howard played all 12 games. He would miss a couple of games the next season due to an ankle injury but started every game his senior year. His career ended at the University of Florida with Howard recording 131 tackles and 25.5 of those for a loss. He also won a BCS Championship. Howard was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
