The 25-year-old had been Denver’s quarterback in waiting for the entirety of his career. But in 2015, he finally had a chance to prove his mettle in the league. He took over for an injured and somewhat ineffective Peyton Manning in week ten loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

A week later, he would get the first start of his career against the Chicago Bears. It was a fairly solid outing as he ended up throwing for 250 yards and two touchdown passes in a 17-15 victory. For his efforts, he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Osweiler would start all the Broncos’ remaining regular season games as Manning recovered from a torn plantar fascia. He compiled a 5-2 record while passing for 1,967 yards and adding ten touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Coeur d’Alene, ID native played collegiately at Arizona State. As a junior in 2011, he was one of just eight quarterbacks in the nation to throw for 4,000 or more yards. Touted as one of the better quarterback prospects heading into the 2012 season, Osweiler decided to forego his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.

He ended up being the fifth quarterback taken, with the Broncos picking him late in the second round.
