Eric Gordon Set to Miss the Rest of the Season

The New Orleans Pelicans have announced that shooting guard Eric Gordon will miss the rest of the season after finger surgery.

The New Orleans Pelicans have announced that shooting guard Eric Gordon will miss the rest of the season after finger surgery. The surgery on Gordon’s right finger is the guard’s second this season, but despite two surgeries Gordon will not see the court again this season.

Gordon’s injury occurred on Saturday night against the Utah Jazz. Gordon’s injury comes at an annoying time for the guard, as Gordon recently found himself averaging 23 points per game over a three game stretch. Numbers like this don’t jump of the page, but for an injury prone guard like Gordon, an injury at this time looks a lot more unfortunate.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry had this to say on Gordon’s injury. ” I don’t know for sure what happened, but it looks like he might have done the same thing again. And that would be unfortunate because he worked so hard to get back. I thought he was really playing really good basketball.”

So far this season Eric Gordon has averaged 15.2 points, 2.7 assist’s and 2.2 rebounds in 45 games.

This year has been awful for the Pelicans in terms of injuries, as the team can’t stay healthy. Jrue Holiday has missed time, so has guard Tyreke Evans and an assortment of others. Gordon is just the latest of a string of bad news injury stories that have flown at speed towards Pelicans fans.

The Pelicans currently stand at 24-38 and are sitting at the bottom of their division. The Pelicans aren’t completely out of playoff contention, but it would take a monumental effort for the team to get there.

Eric Gordon is in the final year of his contract and likely wont re-sign with the Pelicans. It’s not even a question of talent because Gordon has plenty, but more about injuries. The NBA is an unforgiving league, and sometimes a player’s best ability is availability, which is something Gordon cant guarantee the Pelicans.
