Colorado Rapids sign 2016 MLS SuperDraft Pick Chris Froschauer
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, March 4, 2016) – Colorado Rapids announced today that the club has signed 2016 MLS SuperDraft selection goalkeeper Chris Froschauer out of Ohio State University.
“We would like to officially welcome Chris to the club,” said Paul Bravo, Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations. “He has earned the right to be in our group and we believe he possesses the characteristics to be successful in this league.”
Froschauer, 21, was taken with the second pick of the third round, 43rd overall by the Rapids. He was a first team All-Region and All-Big Ten selection and helped guided the Buckeyes to their fourth Big Ten title in school history. The four-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Froschauer led the conference with a .798 save percentage and 10 shutouts. His 10 shutouts were tied for third on the OSU single-season shutouts list, while his 0.88 goals-against average ranked ninth all-time in OSU single-season history.
The Rapids season starts on Sunday, March 6 at 1 p.m. MT on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes, with the Home Opener at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 12 at 5 p.m. MT.
