LA Galaxy Waive Dan Gargan and Ignacio Maganto
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Feb. 29, 2016) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has waived defender Dan Gargan and forward Ignacio Maganto. Gargan, a 10-year MLS veteran, departs after joining the club ahead of the 2014 season. Maganto, a 2015 MLS SuperDraft selection, departs after a year with the Galaxy.
Gargan, 33, made 54 MLS appearances for the Galaxy since signing with the team ahead of the 2014 season. The 10-year MLS veteran helped the club to its fifth MLS Cup trophy, playing 30 minutes in the Galaxy’s 2-1 win over the New England Revolution in the 2014 MLS Cup. Overall, Gargan has made 185 appearances in MLS between his time with the Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy.
Maganto, 24, was drafted by the Galaxy with the 21st selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. In his rookie season, the Iona-College product played in 13 matches, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Maganto also featured for LA Galaxy II in the United Soccer League (USL) throughout the season.
The LA Galaxy continue in the 2015-16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) quarterfinals when they face Santos Laguna on Tuesday, March 1, at Estadio Corona in Torreon, Mexico, in the second leg of the series (7 p.m. PT, Fox Sports 2). The Galaxy will then return to StubHub Center for their 2016 Major League Soccer opening match, set for Sunday, March 6, against Eastern Conference foe D.C. United (7 p.m. PT, UniMás).
