Life has been pretty good for the Kansas City Royals and their catcher, Salvador Perez these last few seasons. Expect the good times to continue as the reigning World Series Champions have agreed to extension with the All-Star and World Series MVP.
According to Yahoo Sports, the new contract will begin in 2017 and run through the 2021 season, and will included $36 million in guaranteed money.

Since becoming the Royals starting catcher in 2012, Perez has provided stability behind the backstop having collected the Gold Glove Awards. Additionally, Perez is no slouch at the plate, having just posted a .260/.280/.426 slash line in 2015 to go along with a career-high 21 home runs.
Perez endeared himself in the hearts of Royals fans last October, when he hit .364 during the World Series against the New York Mets in route to leading Kansas City to its first title in thirty years and collecting World Series MVP for his efforts.
At only 25, the Royals are no doubt banking that Perez continues to build off of his first few seasons as he begins to enter the prime years of his career.
The Perez signing continues a recent trend for Kansas City, as the normally cheap Royals have increased payroll this season and made big money plays to keep outfielder Alex Gordon and sign pitcher Ian Kennedy.
Kansas City will be facing some difficult decisions in the coming seasons, as other key members of their core, Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, Wade Davis, and Mike Moustakas are all slated to become free agents after the 2017 season.
Could these last two seasons be the last hurrah for a group that has already won two pennants and one World Series title? Regardless of whatever decisions the Royals make, count on Salvador Perez being behind the plate for the foreseeable future.
