Lee Stempniak Traded

Stempniak, currently in his 11th NHL season, will bring some much needed experience to the Bruins, and his point total surely won’t hurt him being accepted by the organization and fans as well. At 33 years old, most players find themselves on the downhill slope, and the point total output would seem to follow that trend as well. But, for Stempniak, this doesn’t seem to be the case as he has been one of the more impressive performers this year for the Devils, with 16 goals and 25 assists to his name, both totals that would be respectable for a player of any age or experience level.

Despite being older than most players worth bringing in as part of a trade, the Bruins will see him as a valuable asset on the ice, in the locker room, and possibly even in the financial books as well. Any player who has been able to play in as many NHL games, to be exact, and still produce the numbers he has should be welcomed into an organization, regardless if they are cup contenders or not. And, alongside the fact that he won’t be taking up nearly as much cap space as other players with similar point totals, he becomes a great addition.

Stempniak is currently in the only season of his 1-year/$850,000 contract given to him last offseason by the Devils, which will see him become an unrestricted free agent this summer as well. And, despite the fact that the 2016-17 season will see him turning 34, he could be seen as a great investment for the Bruins at the price they will have to pay to keep him in the organization.

Stempniak was taken with the 148th overall pick (5th round) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues. He has played his game career with the Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes (formerly Phoenix, when he was there), and the New Jersey Devils.
