Brandon Pirri Traded to Anaheim Ducks
Pirri, 24, is on the second year of a two-year, $1.85 million deal he signed prior to the 2014-15 season. The contract carries a cap hit of $925,000 and Pirri will be a restricted free agent when it expires this summer. He will be looking for a significant raise this summer. Pirri currently has 11 goals and 24 points in 52 games for the Panthers.
After moving from Chicago to Florida during the 2013-14 season, Pirri settled in with the Panthers last year and had a breakout offensive campaign. He scored 22 goals in 49 games and proved that he could be a top six forward in the NHL. Pirri has the versatility to play all three forward positions, and this versatility will be welcomed by the Ducks.
The Toronto, Ontario native was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round, 59th overall, at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Unable to crack the deep Blackhawks lineup, and bouncing between the NHL and AHL, Pirri was traded from Chicago to Florida at the March 2014 NHL trade deadline.
