James Reimer Traded To The Sharks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded James Reimer and Jeremy Morin to the San Jose Shraks in exchange for forward Ben Smith, goaltender Alex Stalock, and a conditional 4th round pick in 2018.

James Reimer Traded To San Jose

Reimer has played his entire career up until this trade with Toronto, and brings an 85-76-23career record to the Sharks, including an 11-12-7 record this season. He carries a solid strong>2.49 goals against average and a save percentage of .918 while playing for the 29th-worst team in the league. He has played in 207 career games for the Leafs, including 32 this season, and will be welcomed into his new organization for some solid depth at goalie.

This trade comes as no surprise to the Leafs fan base, as they were even willing to trade their former captain Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators recently. Reimer is one to be included in the group that are less than surprised, as he was quoted in saying “It’s the time of year when the unexpected happens. I have faith in what I can do and what I feel other people think of me. If you end up going somewhere, you make the most of it. But if not, you enjoy the moment, you enjoy where are at, and you have fun working.” It’s safe to say that, even though it came as no surprise to anyone involved, there is no bad blood between Reimer and his former organization.

Reimer, 27, is currently in his final season of a 2-year/$4.6 million contract given to him by the Leafs before the 2014-15 season, and included a $200,000 signing bonus as well. This season sees his contract carrying a $2.3 million cap hit. But, due to the fact that the trade has been made so far into the season, the Sharks will only carry roughly one-fourth of that figure.

Reimer played his junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels, of the Western Hockey League. He was the the 99th overall pick (4th round) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
