Anders Nilsson Traded To St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have announced that they have acquired goaltender Anders Nilsson from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Niklas Lundstrom and a 2016 fifth round pick. Nillson will be assigned to the Blues minor league team. This move comes after Blues goalie Brian Elliot was announced to be out at least four weeks with a lower-body injury.

Nilsson has appeared in 26 games this season and holds a record of 10-12-2. He currently has a GAA is 3.14 and he has a .901 SV%. He last played on February 7th, where he took the loss in a game in which he gave up three goals. In his career, Anders Nilsson has played in 49 games with a record of 19-21-4, GAA of 3.10 and SV% of .900.

Drafted in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Nilsson was signed to a three-year entry level contact on April 27, 2011. He made his NHL debut on November 19, 2011 in relief of Rick DiPietro. Nilsson recorded his first win and shutout in a 1-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on March 4, 2012. He went in the record books as the first goalie in Islanders history to record a shutout for his first win.

Nilsson would later be diagnosed with an unknown, fatigue-inducing illness in January of 2013 which forced him to see limited action with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The illness was later determined to be a vitamin B12 deficiency.

As a restricted free agent in 2014, Nilsson decided to head overseas and signed a contract with Ak Bars Kazan of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Only playing there for one season, Nilsson appeared in 38  regular season games with a record on 20-9-8, GAA of 1.71 and a .936 SV%. In the playoffs he appeared in 20 games with a record of 13-7 and had six shutouts as the Ak Bars Kazan fell in the finals to SKA Saint Petersburg.

Later that year, his NHL rights were traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade for Nick Leddy. His rights were again traded a year later to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for prospect Liam Coughlin. He then signed a one-year contract with the Oilers before the 2015-2016 season.
