Kyle Busch Dominates the Heads Up Georgia 250 at Atlanta

It was back to dominance for one driver this weekend in the Heads Up Georgia 250 at Atlanta. Who was the driver? See who inside.

After the wild weekend of racing that was in Daytona, the young guns and seasoned veterans of the NASCAR Xfinity Series headed north to Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Heads Up Georgia 250 at Atlanta would welcome back to the field its top driver – Kyle Busch.

It was shaping up early to be Kyle Busch’s day at Atlanta. Early in the morning, Busch would speed his way to the pole, leading a Joe Gibbs Racing assault at the front. All three of the JGR Toyotas would start in the top three positions.

While Busch (#18 NOS Energy Toyota) got off to a great start in the race, his teammate Erik Jones (#20 Hisense Toyota) would get caught on the start passing before the start-finish line. This would send him to the back of the pack, and have to fight through traffic all day.

The surface at Atlanta Motor Speedway has always made for slippery conditions, and those would catch a number of drivers off guard. Kevin Harvick (#88 Bad Boy Buggies Chevy) was just one of many drivers to encounter tire issues. Ray Black Jr. (#07 Scuba Life Chevy) was another of them, having a tire blow in the middle of green flag pit stops. This would force many drivers one lap down.

Meanwhile, back out front, Kyle Busch would see a car growing larger in his rear view mirror – that of Kyle Larson (#42 Eneos Chevy). While Larson would be able to catch his bumper, there would be no way around. Kyle Busch would win the Heads Up Georgia 250 at Atlanta.

It would be Kyle Busch’s first ever Xfinity Series win at AMS, as well as the first for his team Joe Gibbs Racing. Coming home in second would be Kyle Larson, with Erik Jones rebounding from his early problems to third. Meanwhile, Elliott Sadler (#1 OneMain Financial Chevy) would come home with a top ten, and hold onto the Xfinity points lead.

Up next, the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Sin City, to race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. See the live racing next Saturday afternoon on FS1.
