Ottawa Senators rookie defenseman Chris Wideman has agreed to terms on a two-year, one-way contract extension. The deal is said to be worth $1.6 million total with a average annual value and salary cap hit of $800,000.

Wideman, 26, was chosen in the fourth round of the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He has five goals, nine points total in 44 games played this season, (Via NHL.com). Wideman ranks third among first-year defenseman in both goals and points. He averages 13 minutes, 59 seconds of ice-time a game. He would have become a restricted free agent after this season, but is now locked in for at least another two seasons with the Senators. .
After being drafted, Wideman played four years in the CCHA with the University of Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
He was the 2014-15 recipient of the Eddie Shore Award for being the American Hockey League’s best defenseman with 19 goals, 61 points in 75 games played with the Binghampton Senators. He led all AHL defencemen in points, and was Binghampton’s lone representative in the 2015 AHL All-Star Game.
