Report: Houston Rockets trade Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton to Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are rolling during this trade deadline. After acquiring Tobias Harris on Tuesday, they have now acquired Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton. Houston will receive Joel Anthony and a first round pick in the 2016 NBA draft. For the Pistons, this is a great deal.

Report: Houston Rockets trade Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton to Detroit Pistons

Although Motiejunas has been in and out with back problems, he is a solid player when healthy. He is at his best when in the low post. His ability to use both hands and have solid footwork can really help the Pistons. Thornton is a great three point shooter. A shooter is going to do well on any team that they are on. We know that Stan Van Gundy loves to surround his big men with shooters to help space the floor.

Although the Rockets aren’t getting much with Anthony, the first round pick they are receiving is only top eight protected. Do not be surprised to see Houston possibly try to use that pick in a later trade. With the organization still trying to move Dwight Howard, the first round pick could be a huge factor.

The Pistons have done everything right during the trading period. Stan Van Gundy is doing a great job of making the Pistons a deep team. With the team only being 0.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, it is now set to make a strong run at that playoff spot. They now have a very deep frontcourt with Marcus Morris, Andre Drummond, Tobias Harris, and Montejunas. It will be interesting to see how Van Gundy integrates all of them into the rotation.
