New York Jets 2015 Fantasy Football Recap

The New York Jets had one of their best seasons in 2015. The Jets finished the season at 10-6 and finished in second place in the AFC East, barely missing the playoffs. The season got off to a rocky start with their starting quarterback Geno Smith getting his jaw broken by former teammate IK Enemkpali during the summer. Smith would miss most of the season due to the injury. So backup Ryan Fitzpatrick would take over for Smith at starting quarterback. The Jets also acquired Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears for a fifth round draft pick. This would turn out to be a great deal for the Jets with Marshall having a career season in his first year in New York. Let’s look at the New York Jets 2015 fantasy football recap.

New York Jets 2015 Fantasy Football Recap

With starting quarterback Geno Smith being out with a broken jaw, back up Ryan Fitzpatrick would take over at starting quarterback for the Jets and had one of the best seasons of his career in 2015. He threw for 3900 yards 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and also ran for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Fitzpatrick averaged 17 fantasy points per game, and finished as the 12th ranked fantasy quarterback in 2015. He certainly was one of the most consistent quarterbacks this past season, which should continue in 2016. Fitz is an unrestricted free agent and if he returns to the Jets next season he is worth a middle to late round pick in your 2016 draft.

Chris Ivory was one of the better running backs this season in fantasy football, totaling 1300 yards and eight touchdowns in 2015. The one problem with Ivory was that he was a bit inconsistent in his production. While he did finish as the eighth-ranked running back this past season and averaged 10 points per game, his production was inconsistent as he had eight games with eight or fewer fantasy points and seven games with ten or more points. Most of his points came in three games where he scored 20 plus fantasy points. Like Fitzpatrick, Ivory is also an unrestricted free agent. If he returns to the Jets and is still the lead running back for next season he should be targeted around the fifth round in next year’s draft. The other running back in the Jets offense was Bilal Powell who totaled 700 yards and had three touchdowns. Powell was a decent flex option towards the end of the season and is worth a late round flier in next year’s draft.

Wide receiver is one of the deepest positions in fantasy football, and last season the Jets had two of the best and most consistent ones in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. In Marshall’s first season with the Jets he totaled 1,500 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Marshall averaged 14 fantasy points per game and finished the season as the third ranked wide receiver in 2015. Decker also had a great season as he had 1,000 receiving yard and 12 touchdowns. Decker averaged ten fantasy points per game and finished as the ninth ranked wide receiver. Marshall is worth a second round pick in next year’s fantasy draft, and Decker should be targeted somewhere around the fifth round in fantasy draft next season.

With most of the targets and touches going to the running backs and wide receivers, it left tight end Jeff Cumberland with very few opportunities to produce this past season. Cumberland only totaled 77 yards and had zero touchdowns. Even with the tight end position having the least amount of depth, Cumberland is probably not worth a draft pick in your 2016 draft this upcoming season.

In conclusion, the Jets skill position players helped a lot of fantasy owners this past season. If Ryan Fitzpatrick is back with the Jets there will be plenty of opportunity for more solid production in 2016. With the depth at the quarterback and wide receiver position, Fitzpatrick and Decker could end up being a great bargain in next year’s drafts. If the Jets can repeat their offensive production from 2015, the Jets should have an opportunity to repeat and or improve on there 10-6 record and have a shot at winning their division and making the playoffs in 2016.
