Highly rated prospect defensive line prospect Jeffery Simmons waited until National Singing Day to make his announcement, but we now know that he will be playing at Mississippi State next season. He is considered a major get for the Bulldogs, spurning offers from SEC rivals Alabama and Ole Miss.

Jeffery Simmons was always going to stay relatively close to home. The five star defensive lineman from Noxubee County High School in Macon Mississippi got plenty of attention with offers from 10 schools, but for some time he had it narrowed down to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Alabama and Ole Miss. Auburn and even Alcorn State and Arkansas State even through in scholarship offers, but as time wore on in the recruiting process, Simmons kept his final four pretty consistent, with Ole Miss getting the official visit last weekend. He came away from the trip saying Ole Miss, “felt like home,” in an interview with Rebelgrove.com
At 6-4, 272 pounds, Simmons had 105 tackles for Noxubee County, with 88 solo tackles. He also had 18 sacks his senior season. And because who doesn’t like seeing the big guys get involved in the offense he also had 174 all-purpose yards on offense as a receiver and a running back.
Kirby Smart had been handling his recruiting for Alabama prior to leaving for the Georgia for the head coaching job, but Simmons never added Georgia to his list of finalists and Bo Davis took over the recruiting tasks for the Crimson Tide late in the game.
