It is time for Missouri and Kansas to get over the fact that the University of Missouri-Columbia left for the SEC and left Kansas behind in the Big 12. These two schools hate each other and it deserves to be shown in the two biggest college sports there is, football and men’s basketball. As a Mizzou fan I want to trash talk my friends that are Kansas’ fans about how bad their football team is and I want to argue with them about basketball season and how overrated I think their team is. The answer to this question right now is that Kansas basketball is overrated big time this year. I think their fans will agree with me when I say that this is not one of the other better Kansas teams.
Bring Back the Mizzou-Kansas Border War
I think the fan bases both want this game back. Kansas wants to beat Mizzou in basketball just as badly as Mizzou fans want to beat Kansas in football. I will admit that the rivalry is nowhere near the Alabama-Auburn rivalry in football or Duke-North Carolina in basketball but be assured these two fan bases HATE each other with a passion. Mizzou fans will bring up burning Lawrence to the ground and Kansas fans will bring up the fact that Missouri was a slave state in the civil war. As a Mizzou fan I cannot stand the entire state of Kansas and I know they feel the same way about the state of Missouri. You can just as easily have the football game at Arrowhead Stadium and the basketball game at the Sprint Center, both in Kansas City, Missouri. They could also alternate between having the basketball game in Lawrence and the football game in Columbia then alternate the following year. That can be decided between the athletic directors who need to work their hardest to bring the rivalry back.
The other rivalries are dying as well. Mizzou no longer plays Nebraska or Colorado and there is a lot of missed traditions in the loss of those two games. Kansas may still play Kansas State as their main rival now but you can tell it’s not the same. Stop lying to yourselves Kansas fans. You know that you do not hate Kansas State like you hate Missouri. It is just the same for Mizzou playing Arkansas and calling it a rivalry. It’s not. Mizzou seems to already have a better rivalry with South Carolina and Georgia then they will ever have with Arkansas. I do not have the hatred towards Arkansas like I do Kansas. The hatred just isn’t there like it is with the Jayhawks.
To finish this off to I do realize that the rivalry between Mizzou and Kansas is called the Border Showdown now and not Border War but that was just to PC it up a bit. Every true fan of either team knows that the rivalry is a war. You do not have to remind us at all. In a college sports world that is now constantly changing it would be nice to take back one of the best things about college sports: the rivalries. You can’t let a rivalry die between two schools like it did between Mizzou and Kansas and even Texas and Texas A&M. It is time to get over the fact that a school left for the SEC and more money because they were tired of being pushed around *coughs* Texas *coughs*. Bring back the rivalries and that will bring in plenty of money as well.
