It has been quite the busy few days for the Philadelphia Eagles. They lock up another part of the future as offensive lineman Lane Johnson has signed a six-year deal that will keep him with the team through the 2021 season. Reports indicate that Johnson will get $35.5 million guaranteed with a max value on the contract of $63 million. Johnson had one more year left on his rookie deal so this deal includes that year.

Johnson was drafted by the Eagles in the first round (4th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut on September 9th, 2013 against the Washington Redskins. He became the first rookie offensive lineman to start at tackle for the Eagles on opening day since John Welbourn in 1999. He was also part of the line that blocked for the NFL’s leading rusher that year, LeSean McCoy.

He has predominately played right tackle during his career, but he made his first two career starts at left tackle during the past season. Johnson is expected to take over on the left side for Jason Peters at some point. Head coach Doug Pederson has advocated, though, that Peters still has enough in him for several years.
“I want to be here the rest of my career. I have a lot of guys in the locker room that are like brothers to me.” Johnson said when meeting with the media. He also talked about how the deal was too good to pass up and that he felt the Eagles drafted him to eventually play left tackle.
