Paille, a 10-year veteran in the NHL, has spent the first half of the 2015-16 season playing with the Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks farm team. He amassed 1 goal and 4 points in 31 games. He was originally drafted 20th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Paille played parts of five seasons with the Sabres.
He was then traded to the Bruins for two draft picks in 2009. His trade was special, due to the fact that this was the first trade Boston and Buffalo had completed since Buffalo entered the NHL in 1970. Paille went on to win the Stanley Cup in 2010-11 with the Bruins. After the 2014-15 season concluded, the Bruins decided not to extend his contract and he became an UFA. He was then invited to play with Chicago’s farm team.
Paille, a defensive specialist, put up a career high of 19 goals and 35 points in 77 games during the 2007-08 season with Buffalo but has never returned to those numbers, only topping 10 goals three times and never breaking 20 points since 2008-09.
The 31-year-old will join the Rangers as they suit up to play the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C. on January 22nd. The Rangers are currently sitting 2nd in the Metropolitan Division, behind the Washington Capitals, with a record of 25-16-5 for 55 points. It is unconfirmed if Paille will play with the Rangers on Friday.
“We got (Paille) for a particular role–he was an excellent fourth line penalty killer in Boston, & our PK needs some help”-AV #NYR
