When the Edmonton Oilers traded for goaltender Cam Talbot at the NHL Entry draft in June, they thought they were solving their goaltending issues for years to come. However, there was one small issue, Talbot only had one year remaining on his contract and was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2016.
The Oilers solved that issue today, locking up the 28-year-old net minder to a three-year contract extension. The deal is said to be worth $12.5 million ($4.16 million AAV) and begins in the 2016-17 season.

“It’s extremely exciting for me and my family and it’s an exciting time in Edmonton,” Talbot told the Oilers website on Sunday. “I’m just happy that I’m going to be around for the next three years to grow and improve with this team.”
“I love the city so far,” said Talbot. “It’s an exciting time with the new arena and everything coming next year and the downtown being built up, so I’m excited to be a part of this team for the next three years and hopefully moving forward and growing into a playoff team and hopefully a contender.”
