With an usual number of quality free agents still available, it appears that the dominos are beginning to fall as the Colorado Rockies signed Gerardo Parra to a three-year contract worth $27.5 million. The deal also includes a fourth-year option for $12 million.

Parra split time last year between the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles, where he hit .291 with a .328 on-base percentage to go along with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs.
In addition to his solid work in the batter’s box, Parra has the ability to play all three outfield positions, and play them all very well. Parra won a Gold Glove award in 2011 as a left fielder and in 2013 as a right fielder.
“Super excited to join the Rockies,” Parra said on Twitter once the signing became official.
Parra joins a very talented Rockies outfield corps which features Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon in addition to Corey Dickerson. It’s not known where Parra will play in the outfield as Gonzalez or Blackmon could be moved via trade to bring in additional talent.

Parra is the second free agent that Baltimore has lost today, as starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen signed with the Miami Marlins.
As of last week, there were a number of high profile outfielders still on the free agent market; however, Parra joins the recently re-signed Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals and Denard Span of the San Francisco Giants in signing deals this off-season.
