The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the signing of former Blue Jays General Manager Alex Anthopoulos. Anthopoulos will fill the role of Vice President of Baseball Operations. The hiring means that the Dodgers now have two Canadians in their front office, as current Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi is from Sudbury, Ontario. The hiring also reunites Anthopoulos with Ismael Cruz. Cruz worked as director of Latin America operations for the Blue Jays last season before joining the Dodgers in November. Anthopoulos is supposed to help in all things baseball for the Dodgers, as they add to what was an already impressive front office.

Alex Anthopoulos named Dodgers Vice President of Baseball Operations
Anthopoulos is known for this past year and the trades he made at the deadline. Anthopoulos acquired pitchers David Price, LaTroy Hawkins, and Mark Lowe along with shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, and left fielder Ben Revere at the MLB Trade Deadline this year. He would later add Cliff Pennington and Darwin Barney to the roster. Those trades pushed a 50-51 Blue Jays all the way to the playoffs and made them AL East division champions. Anthopoulos shocked many after he declined a contract extension from the Jays following the year, as he just built a team that made its first playoff appearance in 22 years. He also surprised many by saying he won’t return the day he was named Executive of the Year.
Anthopoulos has built a lot of this current Blue Jays roster. Some of those players include MVP Josh Donaldson, Roberto Osuna, Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman, Russell Martin, and R.A. Dickey.
