Indianapolis Colts 2015 Fantasy Football Recap

The Indianapolis Colts season did not go the way that many expected it too. Since the Colts drafted Andrew Luck first overall in the 2012 NFL draft the Colts have a combined record of 41-23. They have made the playoffs three out of the last four years, and coming into this season they were thought to have some of the best fantasy football players on their team. With several key injuries to the team, the Colts’ star players fell short of expectations. Let’s recap the 2015 fantasy football season for the Indianapolis Colts.

Indianapolis Colts 2015 Fantasy Football Recap

Coming into the 2015 season Andrew Luck was ranked the number two quarterback in fantasy football. His average draft position was in the second round but he didn’t produce like many thought he would. Luck only played seven games in the 2015 season and in those games he averaged 18 fantasy points. No one can predict injuries, but in a game like football they are going to happen. Luck should still be viewed as one of the elite quarterbacks in fantasy football for the 2016 season, but should be drafted around the fifth round.

When the Colts signed Frank Gore in the offseason, fantasy players were excited. Gore has been one of the best and most consistent running backs in fantasy for almost a decade. With defenses not being able to stack the box to stop Gore, many thought he was in for a monster season. With the injury to Luck, Gore still produced 1,234 total yards and seven touchdowns and averaged 10 fantasy points per game. If Gore is still the lead running back in 2016 he should continue to produce solid numbers and should be drafted around the fourth round in next year’s drafts.

The Colts wide receiving corps was seen as one of the best coming into the 2015 season. In the offseason the Colts signed veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson, who has been one of the best wide receivers in fantasy football over the past several years. Johnson did not produce in 2015, totaling 504 yards and four touchdowns, which was not what many expected of the veteran. The Colts also have two of the fastest wide receivers in T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief. On average, Hilton was drafted in the third round in most drafts in 2015 and was drafted as many players’ number one receiver. Overall, Hilton produced 1,124 yards and five touchdowns, but the problem was that he was very inconsistent in 2015. With Luck back, we can expect Hilton to produce big numbers in 2016. Moncrief was thought to be a sleeper and had shown big play potential coming into the 2015 season, but again with the injury to Luck, Moncrief failed to produce totaling, 733 yards and six touchdowns. The Colts wide receiving corps should still be seen as one of the best in the league and with Luck back in 2016, should produce solid numbers for your fantasy team.

The Colts have two great NFL tight ends in Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, but in regards to fantasy, not so much. Both have shown that they can produce but with all the mouths to feed in Indianapolis, there isn’t enough to go around. Fleener had the better season of the two and is seen as the vertical threat out of the two, as he totaled 491 yards and three touchdowns. While Allen is usually used as more of the red zone threat, he had a very disappointing year, only totaling 109 yards and one touchdown. With there inconsistent production, I would stay clear of the Colts tight ends in 2016 drafts.

With the Colts bringing back head coach Chuck Pagano and the return of Andrew Luck, the Indianapolis Colts should return as one of the best teams in the NFL. With their down season in 2015, the Colts skill players will probably fall in drafts and they could turn out to be great draft bargains in 2016.
