The NHL suspends Brad Marchand for three games for his actions in Monday’s game against the Ottawa Senators. Marchand hit Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki with a low hit, at his knees. The Bruins would go on to win a wild game 7-3, but may have lost one of their best forwards for the Winter Classic against the Montreal Canadiens and two more games. This isn’t the first time that Marchand has gotten in trouble with the NHL’s department of player safety.

Bruins forward Brad Marchand, 27, is suspended without pay for a hit Tuesday, December 29th against Ottawa Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki in the first period in which Marchand clipped the Senator at 8:41. The suspension comes as a surprise to some as Marchand was involved in the NHL Winter Classic festivities today in Boston and many suspected that the NHL wouldn’t suspend a star player before a major televised event.
Marchand has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 34 games this season. This is not the first time the NHL has suspended Marchand. Marchand has been previously suspended five games for clipping Sami Salo and two games for a slew-foot to Derick Brassard. Some speculated the call with the NHL Board of Safety could have also been for a spear to Senators centre Kyle Turris at the end of the game.
He will return to the Boston Bruins for their next game against the Ottawa Senators.
