Tonight proved to be another solid test by Coach Hunter (@CoachRHunter) and the Georgia State Panthers MBB team, when they hosted (and narrowly defeated) the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, 64-62.
GSU edges MTSU in MBB, 64-62
Isaiah Williams (@Zay_Will1) accounted for nearly half (9-12) of the Panthers’ free throws (17-26) tonight. Reggie Upshaw (@TheRegister347) and Darnell Harris and (@D_1Harris) lobbed just about half (5-6 and 3-4, respectively) of the Blue Raiders FTs (15-22).
After being concerned with how Georgia State’s been at successful free throws the past few weeks, Coach Hunter now has the team firing where they need to be. Next up: Tackle the abysmal treys; Panthers were 1 for 9 beyond the arc, while MTSU snagged 21 of their 62 points on 7-22 shooting.
I knew, coming into this game, that MTSU would provide a real challenge to the Panthers, and this game certainly didn’t disappoint. It went down to the wire, with 3.6 seconds left on the clock… and came down to Isaiah Williams’ free throws for Georgia State to escape with a win over the Blue Raiders. The home win streak for the GSU Panthers continues, of course.
Don’t be surprised to see the MTSU Blue Raiders surprise several teams this year. They have a very solid core group of guys.
Georgia State (@GeorgiaStateMBB) moves to 7-2 for the season (all OOC games). They travel to UT Arlington on December 30th, and then Texas State on January 2nd before returning home to face the Troy Trojans on January 7th.
Middle Tennessee (@MT_MBB), falls to 7-3 and travels to Sioux Falls, SD, to take on South Dakota State on December 27th. The Blue Raiders then return home to take on Trevecca on December 30th before hitting the road on January 3rd to face the UAB Blazers.
