NHL journeyman goaltender Ray Emery has signed a PTO (professional tryout) contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
Believed to be KHL-bound, Emery dissolved a pending deal with an undisclosed team due to immigration delays in order to remain on North American ice.

“Razor” Ray Emery to Join Toronto Marlies
The 33-year old veteran netminder known as much for his penchant for pugilism as he is for puck-stopping will call Ricoh home ice after attempts to crack the rosters of the Tampa Bay Lightning as well as L.A.’s AHL club Ontario Reign were unfruitful.
Emery has tended goal for the Ottawa Senators, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Anaheim Ducks, and the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL, as well as Atlant Moscow of the KHL
Emery has a Stanley Cup, a William Jennings (fewest goals against) and a Molson Cup (most 3 star selections) to his credit.
Diagnosed with avascular necrosis, a disease which is marked by deterioration of the hip joint due to inadequate blood supply, Emery had successful surgery in April, 2010, and resumed his career in march of 2011, thirteen months later.
Emery will join the Marlies on the road against Washington Capitals AHL affiliate Hershey Bears Saturday night, as Antoine Bibeau has been summoned to back up Jonathan Bernier versus the L.A. Kings. It has not been announced whether Emery or call-up Rob Madore will get the nod.
James Reimer and Garret Sparks will remain on injured reserve for an undisclosed length of time, hence the move to acquire Emery, who boasts an NHL career GAA of 2.70 across 287 games.
