Jose Mourinho Sacked By Chelsea
Chelsea have sacked manager Jose Mourinho just seven months after winning the Premier League title after a poor run of form. He leaves the Blues as their greatest ever manager, but under a cloud given their recent run of defeats and Chelsea’s position in the table.
He won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup in 2007, and the League Cup three times. His failure to motivate his players after their recent title triumph has meant that yet again Mourinho has failed to be at a club for longer than three seasons.
Internal controversies have raged with major issues between himself and the players, notably Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, and the protracted legal issues with Dr Eva Carniero.
He managed to steer Chelsea to the knockout phase of the Champions League, beating FC Porto, but Chelsea’s league form has been unacceptable; they have lost nine of the sixteen Premier League games this season.
The beauty parade to replace Mourinho has already started with many names being linked with the job. Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola will be fans’ favourites but former Spurs coach, Juande Ramos, has been linked with an interim role, as has Dutchman, Guus Hiddink.
That Roman Abramovich had waited this long to sack Mourinho had been seen as a positive sign and a change of culture for a club used to pulling the trigger when results started to go the wrong way.
Chelsea fans will have felt this feeling before, but many will be disappointed as the ‘Special One’ was seen as Chelsea’s best chance of emulating a Sir Alex Ferguson style era of stability.
The merry-go-round starts again for Chelsea, with many fingers that will be pointed in many directions over what has led to this situation. In the meantime, Chelsea fans must deal with the loss of Mourinho and get behind the team this Saturday when they face Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
