George Lowe Commits to Harlequins
Harlequins can announce today (Thursday 17th December) that centre, George Lowe, has re-signed with the Club.
Commenting on the announcement, the 26 year-old said: “I am really pleased to have committed my future to Harlequins; my decision to stay was a quick and easy one. The Club and its supporters really helped me during my long-term injury and it’s something I’m truly grateful for.
“I want to repay the faith and support they gave me by helping this Club push for more silverware both domestically and in Europe.
“The squad we have is hugely exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of it for the next few years.”
Lowe was educated at Epsom College and played for Cobham RFC in his youth. After joining the Harlequins Academy in 2008, he made his senior debut in 2009 against Wasps.
Since then, the centre has gone on to make 128 appearances for the Club, scoring 27 tries.
In establishing a lethal centre pairing with Jordan Turner-Hall, before Jordan’s retirement in 2015, Lowe was an imperative asset to Harlequins during the 2011 Amlin Challenge Cup, 2012 Aviva Premiership and 2013 LV= Cup winning campaigns.
Suffering a near career ending neck injury against Saracens in 2013, he spent 13 months in intensive recovery and returned to competitive rugby in October 2014. Just over a year later, the centre is returning to his electric form which had many pundits calling for a senior international cap.
Representing the England U20s during the Six Nations and Junior World Championships in 2009, he was called up for England’s 2012 tour to South Africa, starting against the Southern Barbarians. He was then part of the 2013 England Saxons squad which defeated the Irish Wolfhounds.
Confirming the news Harlequins Director of Rugby, Conor O’Shea, said: “George is the epitome of what you understand a team player to be.
“Injury cost him on his rise to the top, but the way he is playing now, and at the age of 26, George should in no way, shape or form limit his ambition. The wider group owe him and if the group delivers, George will get the recognition he deserves. This is a great re-signing for the Club.”
