Earlier on Friday, The Chicago Cubs signed outfielder Jason Heyward. Details on the deal have yet to surface however, it said the deal could be just south of 200 million dollars according to CBS Chicago.
The 26 year old, was the most sought-after outfielder on the market. The Cubs had been pushing hard for Heyward and beat out rival and Heyward’s former team the St. Louis Cardinals in order to sign him.

It was also said that the third team who was involved in the Heyward sweepstakes were the Washington Nationals who ESPN reported were emerging closer in the sweepstakes just 1 hour before he signed with the Cubs.
Heyward will be entering his 7th Major League Baseball season, this upcoming season. He has won a gold glove in 3 of the last 4 seasons as an outfielder. Last season, Heyward had a career best .293 batting average for the Cardinals. He also hit 13 homers, 60 RBIS and had 23 stolen bases.
Heyward played the first 5 years of his career with the Atlanta Braves before he was dealt just prior to last season to the Cardinals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller.
Heyward is a versatile outfielder who can play in each of the 3 out-fielding positions. However according to CBS Chicago he will likely start the year as a center fielder before moving to a corner somewhere down the line.
On Wednesday, Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer explained the Cubs have a sense of urgency due to being in their championship contention window right now.
“We’re a good team. We have a great manager, great coaching staff. I think this team really believes in itself, and I think we have a lot of upside. So we have to act with urgency to make this team better” said Hoyer.
