I’m hoping to kick this season’s daily CBB DFS articles with some big time plays for some small time prices. If you weren’t reading through these articles last year, you’ll find that I often change the format of the article. Sometimes, I will provide my favorite top plays of the day, or my high risk/reward plays, or cash game/tourney plays. The reason I change the format is because the daily slate is not always the same. I could break down every game and give you options from all games, but this will become overwhelming as options can pile up quickly. With this in mind, I look over the slate and try to evaluate the best information I can provide you to make money. Typically, I will refer mainly to Fanduel’s nightly slate, but I do make Draftking’s player mentions from time to time. On Fanduel, our goal is approximately 4x the price of the player. If all your players meet this goal you’ll land on a score of 240, which will cash you almost everywhere on most nights. A ten game slate tomorrow may not seem like an eternity, but with the match-ups there are plenty of options. My goal here is to ensure you are on the right low-mid priced guys so you can fit the studs in. The below plays are not in any order of preference, but I’ll mention the plays that I like the most.
Fantasy CBB DFS Plays 12-8-15
Top Low-Mid Priced Plays
Shaheed Davis – Forward UCF. Price 5200
The argument could be made that Davis is just a minutes eater, but a 6’9 forward averaging about 28 minutes and close to a double-double cannot be ignored. Leading UCF in rebounding, coming off his worst performance of the year, I like the bounce-back potential here along with just solid value at a cheap price. UCF being home and a slight favorite, I expect a full run of minutes for Davis.
Four McGlynn – Guard Rhode Island. Price 4900
Before I go into McGlynn, let me mention that I have no issue with ANY Rhode Island player tomorrow. Rhode Island gets a nice tempo jump playing Houston and at home I expect them to score at will. In my opinion, this will be the best team Houston has played this year, and Rhode Island runs a fairly thin bench as well giving the starters a boost. McGlynn has certainly been up and down this year, but his price is very good in this spot. His peripherals are not good, but with the extra possessions expected, he certainly could have more than the usual. As mentioned, any player tomorrow on RIR I’m fine with, but McGlynn will save you the most money.
Joe McDonald – Guard George Washington. Price 5500
McDonald is a fairly safe player that rarely completely duds. We need 21 fantasy points here, and his season average is close to this. Averaging 34 minutes and about 12 actual points per game in his last three, and I like this spot for him to have a good night. This is just a bad match-up for Penn State and I expect their three game winning streak to end tomorrow. Points will be the norm for GWU, and I like McDonald at this price.
Darius Thompson – Guard Virginia. Price 6000 (PENDING LONDON PERRANTES NEWS)
Thompson has filled in for Perrantes since he went out, and has looked very good. A close home match expected, and if Perrantes can’t go Thompson is a nice play here. His peripherals have been great in his two starts and he is getting a lot of run. This is only a play if Perrantes is in fact ruled out. The game is at 7:00 PM, so you’ll have the news before lineup lock and Thompson is a nice fill-in. Play him with confidence if Perrantes is ruled out.
Pat Birt – Guard Tulsa. Price 4800
Birt doesn’t start, but he is not shy about shooting off the bench. Averaging a bit over 20 minutes with decent rebound numbers to go along with his 9+ ppg. Tulsa will get a few extra possessions tomorrow due to Iona’s pace and Birt is another cheap guy who rarely duds. I also really like Shaq Harrison in this spot as well, as these high paced games he usually shows up in a big way. On the other side of the ball AJ English is a freak, so expect to see high ownership there. Keep in mind to start the year though, English has far better numbers at home than on the road. Just some food for thought.
Keaton Miles -Forward Arkansas. Price 4900
Arkansas will score tomorrow at will is a surprise to no one. This issue here is that Arkansas really spreads the wealth when it comes to fantasy points. I like Miles in this spot purely because of his price and recent minutes. There is a dud risk here, but Miles has nice peripherals for such a low tag. With his recent uptick in minutes and ability to attach different areas of the box score makes him a good play here at home. On the other side of this game I don’t mind Blake Simmons and/or Jaylon Brown on the other side of this game at 5000 and 4900 respectively. I’d prefer Miles over the both of them though.
Malik Dime -Forward Washington. Price 4900
Dime will also not be starting tomorrow night, but he typically gets good run. His block upside is nice considering also that TCU is not a strong team in the paint. He averages about 20 minutes and could sneak a few put backs in off the glass along with a few blocks. I expect some more run than only the 14 minutes he received in his last game which will give him extra opportunity to hit value here.
