Matt Hasselbeck was injured in the Colts loss to the Steelers Sunday night.

Indianapolis Colts (6-6) quarterback Matt Hasselbeck left Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) after suffering shoulder and neck injuries.

Hasselbeck’s backup, Charlie Whitehurst, had to enter the game in the fourth quarter to replace the 40-year-old Hasselbeck. Even though Hasselbeck appeared to be able to play through the injuries in the second half, the decision was made to replace him with the score out of reach and with the time running out.

Since Matt Hasselbeck took over the starting duties from the injured Andrew Luck, he’s looked anything like a 40-year-old quarterback, but on Sunday night, father time seemed to finally catch up with him. He appeared to struggle throughout the game before he left with shoulder and neck injuries.

Hasselbeck underwent X-rays after the Colts 45-10 loss to the Steelers, and as it stands now, Hasselbeck and the Colts are uncertain about his status for Indy’s next game against their AFC South divisional opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I did get X-rays and I’m in a little bit of pain,” Hasselbeck said, according to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com. “I got hit on the top of the head and kind of just got my head compressed into my neck.”

The Steelers defense pressured and punished Hasselbeck all night long, causing him to throw a pair of interceptions.

I’m very disappointed in how I played,” Hasselbeck said after the Colts loss.

Hasselbeck will undergo further evaluations on Monday, but when he was asked if he’d be ready to go against the Jaguars, Hasselbeck responded by saying, “I don’t know yet. I would hope that I could (play).”

Matt Hasselbeck was drafted in the six-round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Hasselbeck spent three seasons (1998-2000) with the Packers as Brett Favre’s backup before following former Packers head coach Mike Holmgrem to the Seattle Seahawks. Hasselbeck then spent ten seasons (2001-2010) in Seattle, where he helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl appearance in 2005. Hasselbeck also made three Pro-Bowls (2003, 2005, 2007), and he currently holds twenty Seahawks regular season records.

Hasselbeck also played two seasons (2011-2012) with the Tennessee Titans before finally signing with the Colts in 2013.
